Uzbekistan joins Ethiopia, Fiji, Indonesia and Pakistan as part of the initiative’s first group of participating countries.
The primary objective of BRIDGE is to help countries translate their climate plans into concrete actions and investment projects. The initiative provides expert support to identify priority areas, develop bankable projects and explore opportunities to mobilise international climate finance.
For Uzbekistan, participation in BRIDGE is particularly important in light of the country’s updated national climate commitments. Under its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), Uzbekistan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 50% by 2035, compared with 2010 levels.
The initiative will focus on key areas including renewable energy development, energy efficiency, the sustainable management of water resources, climate-resilient agriculture, improved waste management and climate change adaptation.
On 8 October 2026, the National Climate Center held an online meeting with representatives of the Turkish side to discuss the next steps in Uzbekistan’s participation in the initiative.
At the initial stage, international experts, working jointly with national specialists, will assess existing climate programmes and identify the most promising areas for practical implementation and investment mobilisation.
Based on the findings, a roadmap is expected to be developed to align Uzbekistan’s climate priorities with concrete projects and opportunities for international support.
Participation in BRIDGE opens up new opportunities for Uzbekistan to strengthen cooperation with international partners, attract investment and accelerate its transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye ahead of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), scheduled to take place in Antalya in November 2026.
