Using a modern Testo 350 portable flue gas analyser and a specialised APV-4 aspirator designed to collect dust samples from industrial emission sources, the experts examined the composition of flue gases in accordance with approved methodological guidelines.
Samples were collected and measurements taken to determine the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), nitric oxide (NO), sulphur dioxide (SO₂), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (dust) at the relevant stages of the process, both before and after treatment by the gas and dust filtration system.
Laboratory analyses and instrumental measurements established the following concentrations of pollutants before and after treatment by the filtration system:
–Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂): The removal efficiency was 46.8%.
–Nitric oxide (NO): The concentration decreased from 98.115 mg/m³ before treatment to 52.159 mg/m³ after treatment.
–Sulphur dioxide (SO₂): The initial concentration in the flue gases was 495.0 mg/m³. Following treatment, its concentration fell below the detection limit of the measuring instrument.
–Carbon monoxide (CO): The concentration decreased from 136.25 mg/m³ before treatment to 114.584 mg/m³ afterwards, corresponding to a removal efficiency of 15.9%.
–Particulate matter (dust): The concentration decreased from 57.764 mg/m³ before treatment to 18.3492 mg/m³ after passing through the filters. The dust removal efficiency was 68.2%.
For reference: During an earlier assessment of the same filter, its overall efficiency was recorded at 20%. The business owner was provided with relevant recommendations, and a follow-up assessment recorded an improvement in overall efficiency to 55%.
Measuring pollutant concentrations in gases generated by coal combustion is important for protecting ambient air quality. Instrumental measurements make it possible to quantify pollutant concentrations, compare values at the inlet and outlet of the treatment system, and document the results obtained.
