Uzbekistan is increasing its presence in the international ecological arena

The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) is an assessment of the progress made by a country in aligning its environmental and economic goals and in meeting its international environmental obligations. The EPR program helps and supports EEC member countries in improving their environmental management and performance, facilitates the exchange of information on policies and experiences between countries, helps integrate environmental policy into economic sectors, strengthens cooperation with the international community, and contributes to the achievement and monitoring of relevant Sustainable Development Goals.
The Expert Group for 2023-2026 consists of 10–14 participants, including experts from Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, and Switzerland.
Xaniya Asilbekova, who joined the expert group, heads the information and analytical department of the Center for Specialized Analytical Control under the Ministry of Ecology. With more than 20 years of environmental experience and a PhD in chemistry, she specializes in waste and chemicals management, environmental education, and awareness-raising initiatives. From 2009 to 2017, X. Asilbekova coordinated the activities of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Environmental Organization of Uzbekistan and played a key role in the introduction of education for sustainable development in Uzbekistan.
Recently, she headed the national group for the preparation of the National Report on the State of the Environment of the Republic of Uzbekistan, (https://t.me/ecogovuz/44948) prepared in cooperation with UNEP, UNECE, and FAO. X. Asilbekova has contributed to various international projects, including "Development of an integrated national program and a strategic approach to the implementation of international chemicals management in Uzbekistan" and "Support a strategic approach to the implementation of international chemicals management and SGS in Uzbekistan" (UNITAR). Currently, she is a leading expert on the project of the UNEP Special Program "Strengthening the institutional capacity of Uzbekistan in the implementation of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions and promoting accession to the Rotterdam and Minamata Conventions", as well as the FAO-EU project "Technical assistance for the safe management of hazardous chemicals in Uzbekistan".
