The parties discussed prospects for cooperation on climate change and environmental protection, including efforts to combat desertification and dust storms, improve air quality, strengthen climate data and monitoring systems, mobilise climate finance, promote sustainable waste management and advance the adoption of green technologies.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination between the National Committee and the relevant ADB teams. The parties proposed establishing a single coordination channel, including the designation of focal points, consolidation of requests, and alignment of priority areas for cooperation. Particular attention was given to ADB’s decision to provide the National Committee with a long-term climate adviser, who will help facilitate the practical coordination of expert, technical and financial support.
Potential areas of cooperation also included ADB technical assistance for the implementation of the national Clean Air initiative, as well as the development of a dedicated project to combat desertification and land degradation. The parties also agreed to continue efforts to mobilise international climate finance and focus on 2–3 priority initiatives that can be swiftly translated into concrete projects with clear timelines, designated responsibilities and identified sources of financing.
The parties also highlighted the importance of continuing the implementation of the Sustainable Solid Waste Management Project, valued at US$112 million. The project is aimed at modernising the country’s waste management system and expanding access to waste collection services for nearly 4 million people.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to focus their efforts on developing concrete projects, mobilising technical and financial resources and delivering measurable results.
