The Aktag-Tamdi State Reserve was established in 2022 with the aim of preserving the unique natural biodiversity found in a small part of the northeastern desert of the Republic. The biodiversity studied in the reserve includes tugai forests, various annual (ephemeral), and perennial (ephemeroide) plants of the desert.
