"Chatkal" State Biosphere Reserve

Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve is located on the western and northern slopes of the Chatkal Range of the Western Tien Shan. The reserve is situated in the Bostanlik District of the Tashkent Region at an altitude ranging from 1500 to 3900 meters above sea level. It borders the Buruchmulinsky Forestry on the north and northwest, the Okhangaron District on the southeast, and the Chartak District of the Namangan Region on the east.
The total area of the reserve is 24,706 hectares. The administrative building of the Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve is located 35 km from the city of Tashkent, and the reserve area itself is 70 km from the Parkent District.
Natural conditions: The reserve's location in the transitional zone from subtropical to temperate regions, belonging to the Turanian climatic region, is the main factor determining the climate of the region where the reserve is located. Due to its latitudinal position, the reserve area receives a large amount of solar radiation, with an approximate value of 135 kcal/sq. cm per year.
Flora: In the Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve, 770 species of plants belonging to 70 families of higher plants have been identified. Among them, 25 species are listed in the "Red Book" of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Fauna: The territory of the Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve is home to 166 species of vertebrate animals. Among them, 29 species of mammals, 124 species of birds, 6 species of reptiles, 1 species of amphibians, and 6 species of fish have been identified, as well as more than 1000 species of invertebrates.
20 species of rare animals and birds are listed in the "Red Book" of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 2 of these species - the snow leopard and the Menzbier's marmot - are listed in the IUCN Red List.
Ecotourism objects: Since there is no protected area within the Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve, tourist activities are organized through visits to the "Visitor Center."

The settlements close to the reserve area include the village of Kumushkon in the Parkent District (70 km) and the village of Ertosh in the Okhangaron District (35 km).
