The event was attended by Feruz Safarov, Head of a Department at the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change; Nodirbek Jamburbaev, Head of a Department of the Committee’s Ecological Police; Doniyor Turgunov, Director of the Research Hydrometeorological Institute; Erkin Abduakhadov, Head of a Laboratory at the Research Hydrometeorological Institute; Alisher Khudoyberdiev, Chief Specialist at the Committee; responsible officials from the Committee and its system organisations; as well as representatives of the media.
At the beginning of the event, information was presented on the work that has been carried out and is currently under way in the field of environmental protection.
For reference: To date, the Special Commission has installed 459 automatic monitoring stations at industrial facilities classified as Category I and II, while an inventory of 554 enterprises has been conducted in Tashkent. At 67 enterprises, 186 dust and gas treatment units have been modernised. In addition, more than 280,000 motor vehicles have undergone environmental inspections, preventing the emission of 2.52 thousand tonnes of harmful substances. More than 2.2 million environmental stickers have been issued across the country. As part of the “Car-Free Day” campaign, emissions are reduced by an average of nearly 50 tonnes in a single day.
Measures to improve air quality also include monitoring, construction and greening initiatives. In Tashkent, automatic sampling for PM2.5 has been established at 10 locations, and the online “Eco-Control” platform has been launched. In the construction sector, projects involving buildings more than 12 metres high or covering an area of more than 500 m² are required to allocate at least 30 percent of their territory to green spaces. A 330-hectare “green belt” is being established in Tashkent and Syrdarya regions, while a 33-kilometre “green corridor” is being created along the Small Ring Road.
As a result of the measures implemented, the average concentration of PM2.5 in Tashkent decreased by 25 percent from 1 January to 21 September 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. This indicates a reduction in the level of particulate pollution in the city’s air.
According to the criteria of the national standard, the number of days with good air quality increased from 81 to 147 — an increase of 66 days. In addition, air quality remained at a good level for 30 consecutive days, from 18 April to 17 May 2026.
During the press conference, media representatives received detailed answers to questions concerning inspections conducted in previous years, campaigns aimed at reducing harmful emissions from motor vehicles, liability for failure to install automatic monitoring stations or for their improper operation, as well as measures being implemented and planned for 2026.
For reference: The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change continues to implement measures aimed at protecting air quality. In particular, by the end of 2026, the Committee aims to reduce pollutant and transport emissions by 2 percent, decrease by 7 percent the number of days on which PM2.5 levels exceed the established limit, equip 40 percent of construction sites with dust suppression and monitoring systems, and modernise 30 percent of industrial enterprises.
