The autonomous systems are powered by solar energy and operate fully automatically. Each system is equipped with a 3-cubic-metre water tank, a pump, sensors, and meters. This ensures a stable water supply without the need for continuous connection to centralized energy and water supply networks.
In addition to the watering systems, 10 cameras and 10 camera traps have been installed in the area. They enable round-the-clock monitoring of wildlife, record animal movements and their use of the watering points, and provide data for further monitoring of population conditions.
The creation of additional water sources is particularly important for saiga living in the harsh natural conditions of Ustyurt. Access to water affects not only the condition of individual animals but also the prospects for the conservation and recovery of wild species populations more broadly.
The installation of autonomous watering systems is one of the practical measures being taken to conserve Ustyurt’s biodiversity. Combining wildlife-support infrastructure with modern monitoring tools makes it possible both to improve conditions for wildlife and to collect the data needed for effective conservation monitoring.
