National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan

Speaking at the event, Jussipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, noted that systematic efforts to promote gender equality within the Committee’s system are continuing.

“Currently, women account for 454, or 40 percent, of the 1,126 employees across eight organizations within the Committee’s system. Of the 188 managerial positions, 42, or 22 percent, are held by women. A pool of female candidates for managerial positions has been established within the territorial administrations, and efforts are underway to enhance their professional qualifications. In addition, a national talent pool has been established comprising 19 qualified employees from the central office and organizations within the Committee’s system. Each of them has been assigned a mentor under the ‘Ustoz–Mentor’ mentoring system,” he said.

It was also noted that women account for 70 percent of employees at the Committee who have completed professional development programmes, compared with 56 percent among men.

The seminar placed particular emphasis on the legal and regulatory framework for gender audits and the key principles governing their implementation in government bodies. Participants also reviewed the legal framework for gender audits, discussed the objective assessment of equal opportunities in recruitment, appointments and professional development and developed practical proposals to address identified shortcomings.
