In particular, Aziz Abduhakimov, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, gave up his official car and travelled by bicycle. Committee staff members also travelled to work by bus and metro.
For reference, at the initiative of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, the “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns are held in Uzbekistan on the 10th and 25th of every month. As part of these campaigns, employees refrain from using official cars, with particular emphasis placed on public and environmentally friendly modes of transport.
Given that cars are a constant source of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, going without a car even for one day can significantly reduce the amount of emissions released into the air. The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change therefore calls on our fellow citizens to take an active part in the “Car-Free Day” campaigns.
