At the event, Jusipbek Kazbekov spoke about the work done by the ministry over the past period of this year. Special mention was made of the work carried out within the framework of the national project "Yashil Makon" ("Green Space"), reforms in the fields of atmospheric air protection, waste management, environmental control, cadastre, wholesale, environmental education, forestry, and hydrometeorology.
"As part of the nationwide "Yashil Makon" project initiated by the head of state, 138 million tree seedlings were planted throughout the republic in the spring season of 2024. In the regions, the ministry and local governments have created 257 "green gardens", the total number of which has been brought to 517", said Jusipbek Kazbekov. "My Garden" project was launched through the Open Budget electronic platform. Among the 738 projects initiated by citizens, 48.7 billion sums were allocated for financing", added the Deputy Minister.
Uktam Utaev noted that over the past period of 2023 and 2024, the prosecutor's office and the environment jointly carried out extensive work, but there is still much to do.
"The instruction of the head of state to identify cases of poaching and ensure the inevitability of punishment for violations in the industry is also not organized at the proper level. A total of 239 cases of poaching have been identified in the republic, while not a single case has been identified in Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, and Bukhara regions, where a large number of rare animal species are common. Other similar shortcomings will certainly be eliminated", said U. Utaev.
Head of the Republican Center for the Organization of Sanitary Cleaning Works Sharifbek Hasanov, speaking about changes in the field of waste management, noted that topical issues of the industry are being resolved.
"Until now, one of the most painful issues is the release into the atmosphere of 400 thousand tons of greenhouse gases and 43 thousand tons of wastewater as a result of the dumping of medical waste along with household waste. This has caused various diseases among the population", said Sharifbek Hasanov. "In this direction, Presidential Resolution No. 263 dated July 17, 2024 was adopted, according to which a direct investment project worth 115 million US dollars is being implemented by the American company "Sayar" for the production of alternative thermal energy by incineration of medical waste. The implementation of this project will save about 1.5 billion sums of budget funds and sharply reduce the amount of harmful gases and various diseases among the population", added he.
At the event, Dr. Aaron Russell, Head of the representative office of the Global Institute for Green Growth (GGGI) in Uzbekistan, spoke about promising projects and future plans implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology.
