In particular, Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, opted not to use his official vehicle and travelled by public transport. Committee employees also used buses and the metro to get to work.
For reference: In accordance with the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 25 March 2026 “On Measures to Implement the Nationwide Clean Air Project Aimed at Improving Air Quality”, the “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns are held on the 10th and 25th of each month.
The initiative is aimed at reducing harmful emissions from motor vehicles into the atmosphere and, thereby, contributing to the creation of an environmentally sustainable environment, as well as promoting the wider use of public and environmentally friendly transport.
The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change calls on all government and non-government organisations, as well as citizens across the country, to actively participate in the campaign and make greater use of “green” modes of transport, electric vehicles and public transport that produce no harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
