For reference: the "Gissar" State Reserve was established in 1983 in the Kashkadarya Region to preserve the natural complexes of the northwestern spurs of the Gissar Range in their natural state, study the course of natural processes, introduce science-based approaches to nature conservation, and protect rare species of wild flora and fauna. The reserve comprises the Gelon, Miraki, Tankhazdarya and Kyzylsuv divisions.

The "Gissar" State Reserve covers a total area of 80,986.1 hectares, of which 24,308 hectares are covered by forest, including 12,203 hectares of dense woodland. A total of 56,678 hectares are not covered by forest, including 171 hectares of rivers and lakes, 31,819 hectares of rocks and ravines, and 24,688 hectares of pastures. 35,000 hectares of the reserve consist of high mountains, rocks, ravines and glaciers.
