Uzbekistan actively participates in UNCCD COP17 with its National Pavilion

This major international conference aims to further strengthen global cooperation in preventing land degradation and desertification, enhancing drought resilience, restoring degraded land, promoting the sustainable management of rangelands and reducing the adverse impacts of sand and dust storms.
The conference brings together delegations from Parties to the Convention, representatives of international and regional organisations, financial institutions, research and expert communities, as well as civil society.
Uzbekistan is participating in COP17 with its National Pavilion, showcasing the large-scale reforms and practical measures being implemented in the country at the initiative of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. These efforts focus on combating desertification and land degradation, restoring degraded areas, expanding forests and green spaces, mitigating the impacts of droughts and sand and dust storms, and strengthening the environmental resilience of the Aral Sea region.
The Pavilion also serves as an effective platform for dialogue with international organisations, financial institutions, foreign partners, experts and the scientific community, providing opportunities to discuss new initiatives, develop prospective projects, and facilitate access to advanced expertise and technologies.
Particular attention on the first day of the conference was given to the visit of Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral to Uzbekistan’s National Pavilion. The high-level guest was introduced to the country’s initiatives and practical solutions in the areas of combating desertification and restoring degraded land.
During the visit, the Prime Minister was provided with detailed information on the systematic efforts being undertaken in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the fields of environmental protection, combating desertification and land degradation, restoring degraded areas, strengthening drought resilience, reducing the adverse impacts of sand and dust storms, expanding forested and green areas and restoring ecosystems in the Aral Sea region.
Particular attention was given to large-scale practical measures to establish forest plantations in the Aral Sea region, as well as to Uzbekistan’s systematic approach to addressing environmental challenges related to land degradation and climate change.
The Prime Minister of Mongolia highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s active participation in COP17, describing the country’s National Pavilion as a valuable and effective platform for showcasing experience and practical solutions, expanding international cooperation and advancing new initiatives within the framework of the conference.
Nyam-Osoryn Uchral also highlighted Uzbekistan’s active participation among the Central Asian countries represented by national pavilions at COP17, noting that this format promotes the exchange of experience and the development of practical cooperation in the search for shared solutions to environmental challenges.
Uzbekistan’s participation in COP17 and the activities of its National Pavilion are ongoing. The conference programme includes a series of bilateral meetings, thematic events and presentations aimed at further strengthening international cooperation in land restoration, combating desertification, and enhancing ecosystem resilience.
