The meeting, held via videoconference, focused on the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of ecology, which was signed on 3 July 2026 during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Georgia.
The parties discussed the preparation of a joint Roadmap for the implementation of the Memorandum, identifying key areas of cooperation. In particular, they considered collaboration in waste management, including the study of Georgia’s experience in separate waste collection, sorting, and recycling, as well as the construction of modern waste-to-energy processing facilities.
Special attention was given to cooperation within the framework of the Paris Agreement on climate change, including the implementation of projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate change, and developing climate finance mechanisms. The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation with international financial institutions and organizations, including the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the European Union, to prepare and implement joint environmental and climate projects.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a joint working group, appoint national coordinators, and hold regular expert consultations to coordinate the further implementation of the Memorandum.
The parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening Uzbek-Georgian cooperation in the fields of ecology, environmental protection, and climate change.
