During the negotiations, Uzbek side expressed interest in close cooperation on the implementation of joint projects in the fields of green growth, biodiversity conservation, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and climate change adaptation, as well as in the fields of monitoring and reducing air pollution, preventing sandstorms, and combating desertification.
In turn, representatives of Qatar expressed interest in sharing experience in biodiversity conservation, in particular in the implementation of a project for the reproduction and release into the wild of a rare red book bird, the Houbara bustard.
In addition, the parties discussed the issue of establishing cooperation between higher educational institutions of Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University) in the fields of ecology, natural resource management, and sustainable development.
It is worth noting that currently there is no intergovernmental agreement between Qatar and Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection. In this context, Uzbekistan is interested in an in-depth study of the ecological and green experience of Qatar, as the two countries have an arid climate and face similar environmental and climatic problems. For example, in the field of forest management and combating desertification, Qatar is implementing the "Ten Million Trees" project until 2030. In the direction of adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change, the country has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030. The country also intends to improve air quality standards, and indoor air quality standards following the guidelines of the World Health Organization, and create a national air quality monitoring network.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on the organization of additional meetings between the environmental authorities of the two countries and a working visit of the Qatari delegation to Uzbekistan.
