Uzbekistan strengthens climate cooperation at the “Voice of Global South Summit”

The summit included 10 ministerial sessions on critical global issues, including health, trade relations, food and energy security, and the fight against climate change. Kazbekov joined the heads of environmental agencies of 20 countries in the session "Ways for Progress: the Global South's View on Climate Change Mitigation", which focused on the experience of developing countries and other vulnerable countries.
The participants discussed the need to strengthen international cooperation to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development goals. Attention was focused on raising awareness of climate change issues and the need for sustainable development.
In his speech, J. Kazbekov paid attention of the participants to the climate problems in the world and Uzbekistan, outlined the country's integrated approach aimed at solving environmental problems, and shared information on the country's progress in achieving the goals of adaptation and mitigation of climate change.
The Deputy Minister spoke about the establishment of the National Climate Centre and the Climate Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the country, designed to coordinate the efforts of all stakeholders in the field of climate policy and contribute to the implementation of the country's climate goals. Kazbekov noted that Uzbekistan considers "green development" as an integral part of the republic's sustainable development strategy, according to which the country has adopted several key strategies and initiatives, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030, the implementation of the national Yashil Makon project, and the recycling of more than 65% of household waste by 2030, the concept of environmental protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030, etc .
"Uzbekistan is ready to share its experience and cooperate with the international community in solving global climate problems. We are convinced that through joint efforts we will be able to overcome the negative effects of climate change" , J. Kazbekov.
At the end of the session, the need to strengthen international cooperation to achieve sustainable development was emphasized. The participants expressed their readiness for further exchange of experience and cooperation to overcome climate challenges.
