Public Council discusses priority areas for the Committee's activities

Opening the meeting, Aziz Abdukhakimov highlighted the important role of the Public Council in promoting transparency in the Committee's work, strengthening cooperation with civil society institutions and developing practical recommendations to address pressing environmental challenges.
Participants discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Committee's departments and structural divisions and the Public Council, improve the Council's operational framework, and establish effective mechanisms for reviewing reports and presentations by heads of departments on key areas of the Committee's work.
Particular attention was given to environmental education and workforce development. Members of the Public Council proposed contributing to the development of educational programmes for the new network of green technical colleges being established across the country to train specialists in environmental protection, climate change, waste management and the sustainable use of natural resources.
The meeting also considered initiatives to organize joint field inspections involving members of the Public Council to assess environmental conditions in different regions and strengthen public oversight of nature conservation measures.
A separate session focused on biodiversity conservation, including proposals to establish specialized wildlife rehabilitation and breeding centres, create a new protected area and further expand Uzbekistan's network of protected areas.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the "Nature Protector" honorary badge was awarded in recognition of many years of dedicated service, active public engagement, and significant contributions to environmental protection. The recipients included Natalia Shivaldova, Chair of the Public Council; Nina Pikul, a member of the Public Council, veteran specialist and expert in water resources and ambient air monitoring and Erkin Yuldashev, a distinguished specialist at the "Jeyran" Nursery and an expert in wildlife adaptation and veterinary care.
The participants emphasized that further strengthening cooperation between government institutions and civil society is essential for the effective implementation of Uzbekistan's environmental policy, the conservation of the country's natural heritage and the promotion of environmental awareness and responsibility across society.
