During the meeting, the parties noted the strong momentum of Uzbekistan–Japan cooperation and highlighted Japan’s role as one of Uzbekistan’s key partners in promoting sustainable development, introducing advanced technologies and implementing infrastructure projects.
Particular attention was given to the five nationwide environmental initiatives launched by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan: "Yashil Makon" (Green Nation), "Clean Air", "Zero Waste", "Bio Heritage" and "Eco-Culture".
Representatives of Sumitomo Corporation highly commended Uzbekistan’s ongoing environmental reforms and noted that, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the company is implementing projects in more than 20 countries worldwide. The Japanese side expressed interest in cooperation on climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects. They also presented international experience in deploying energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including heat pump technologies for greenhouse facilities.
In particular, the Japanese delegation shared its experience in constructing a modern greenhouse complex in Turkmenistan using Daikin’s climate control solutions. In this context, the Japanese side proposed exploring the implementation of a pilot project in Uzbekistan to transition greenhouse farms from coal-based heating to modern energy-efficient technologies. The parties also discussed the establishment of a demonstration site within the "Green Territory" project in Samarkand Region to test and showcase advanced energy-efficient heating solutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue expert-level consultations, prepare a list of priority projects and further develop the proposed pilot initiative for the modernization of greenhouse farming, including consideration of potential financing mechanisms.
