The opening ceremony featured addresses by He Huiping, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhang Yuanming, Director General of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography. They emphasized that the launch of the new dialogue mechanism represents a practical outcome of the agreements reached by the Heads of State at the Second "China–Central Asia" Summit, held in Astana in June 2025.
The dialogue mechanism is intended to promote scientific cooperation among the countries of the region through the exchange of research findings and satellite-based Earth observation data, as well as joint efforts in environmental protection, combating land degradation, desertification and soil salinization. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying new and promising areas of cooperation that will contribute to the sustainable development of Central Asia.
During the meeting, the Chinese side highly commended Uzbekistan's environmental policy and expressed its appreciation for the country's active promotion of "green" development principles. It was noted that the vision put forward by President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, "Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains Are Invaluable Assets," is gaining increasing recognition and support in Uzbekistan, which continues to implement comprehensive environmental reforms and undertake wide-ranging measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The participants also underscored the significance of establishing the Central Asian Centre for Ecology and Environment Research at Green University in Tashkent with the support of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography. The establishment of the Centre marks another important milestone in strengthening scientific partnership between the two countries and reflects international recognition of Uzbekistan's leading role in advancing regional environmental initiatives, expanding international cooperation and developing a modern scientific platform to address pressing environmental and climate challenges.
