According to the document, the Climate Council is the highest advisory body under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The main tasks of the Climate Council are defined:
— the formation of a national strategy for mitigating the effects of climate change and adaptation to it, as well as a unified state policy in this direction;
— coordination of the work of ministries and departments on the implementation of a unified state policy to mitigate the effects of climate change and adaptation to it;
— monitoring the fulfillment of the obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan arising from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement;
— defining annual priorities for the implementation of foreign policy to mitigate the effects of climate change and adaptation to it;
— improvement of the regulatory framework for mitigation of the effects of climate change and adaptation to it;
— assistance in providing resources and financing, including attracting investments to support projects aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change, including "green" technologies, scientific research, and innovation.
Also, based on the Decree, the National Center for Green Transformation and Adaptation to Climate Change under the Ministry of Ecology was renamed the National Center for Climate Change.
In addition, to increase scientific and academic potential and develop basic research, a Climate Science Forum (Climate Residence) will be created based on the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change (Green University).
