During the meeting, a number of deficiencies in the field of environmental protection within the region were critically assessed. In particular, concerns were raised regarding inadequate environmental monitoring, insufficient oversight of business entities and the lack of proper control over facilities operating without the required environmental impact assessment approvals, as well as those unlawfully located within river protection zones.
In addition, attention was drawn to the insufficient monitoring of cases involving the illegal extraction of sand and gravel from the Chirchiq River bed, as well as the unlawful disposal of waste in protected areas. The performance of each district and city was subjected to a detailed and critical review, with instances of negligence and irresponsible approaches to the organization of environmental oversight specifically highlighted.
Following the review of the identified violations, strict disciplinary measures were imposed on the responsible officials. In particular, the Deputy Head of the Environmental Police of Tashkent Region, along with the heads of eight district and city divisions, were relieved of their positions.
At the same time, the Main Department of Ecology of Tashkent Region was instructed to take the necessary measures to eliminate the identified shortcomings and to ensure improved effectiveness of environmental oversight.
Furthermore, the Committee on Ecology of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as the territorial environmental authorities of all regions and the city of Tashkent, were instructed to conduct a critical assessment of their own activities in light of the situation in Tashkent Region, promptly address identified deficiencies, strengthen oversight mechanisms and intensify efforts aimed at fostering environmental awareness and culture among the population.
It should be noted that environmental oversight has also been strengthened in other regions of the country. Any manifestations of irresponsibility or negligence will result in the application of strict disciplinary measures.
