During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and the introduction of advanced environmental technologies.
The Uzbek side provided a detailed overview of the large-scale environmental reforms being implemented in the country under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. These include measures aimed at addressing the impacts of climate change, promoting the rational use of natural resources, and improving the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region.
Particular attention was given to environmental education and capacity building. In this context, the Uzbek side presented information on the activities of the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University), highlighting its role in training a new generation of specialists in ecology, environmental protection and sustainable development.
The Chairman of the Foundation highly commended the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and expressed interest in expanding practical cooperation with the country’s relevant institutions. The parties explored opportunities for implementing joint projects in the areas of land restoration, biodiversity conservation, environmental awareness-raising, scientific research, and the exchange of international best practices.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to organize a visit of the Foundation’s delegation to Tashkent in September of this year, hold a videoconference dedicated to the exchange of expertise, and further examine promising avenues for cooperation. In addition, a package of investment and environmental projects will be submitted to the Foundation for review and consideration with a view to establishing practical collaboration.
Representatives of the Foundation also confirmed their readiness to support the development of environmental education by providing the Uzbek side with specialized educational materials and literature on ecology, environmental protection and sustainable development.
