For reference, FMCP3 was held within the framework of the 64th Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (SB 64). The process is one of the key mechanisms under the Paris Agreement aimed at enhancing transparency and strengthening trust among countries through the open exchange of information on the implementation of national climate commitments. It also facilitates the sharing of best practices and promotes international cooperation in addressing climate change.
During the session, the Uzbek delegation presented the results of ongoing reforms and initiatives aimed at fulfilling the country’s climate commitments, expanding renewable energy capacity, improving energy efficiency and strengthening the resilience of the national economy to climate-related risks.
In his statement, Farrukh Sattarov emphasized that Uzbekistan regards transparency as an integral component of effective climate policy and remains committed to its obligations under the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement. He noted that climate change is having a significant impact on Central Asian countries, exacerbating challenges related to water scarcity, land degradation, and glacier melt.
Particular attention was given to Uzbekistan’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), under which the country has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 50 percent by 2035 compared to 2010 levels. It was noted that the previous target of reducing the carbon intensity of the economy by 35 percent had been achieved ahead of schedule and that additional measures are currently being implemented to attain the more ambitious target.
The session also highlighted that, as a result of large-scale solar and wind energy projects, the share of green energy in Uzbekistan’s installed electricity generation capacity has already reached approximately 30 percent and is projected to exceed 50 percent by 2030.
In the area of climate adaptation, Uzbekistan continues to implement measures aimed at improving water resource management. Through the widespread deployment of water-saving technologies, the country is currently saving approximately 10 billion cubic metres of water annually.
In addition, Uzbekistan is steadily strengthening its national climate governance framework, enhancing its greenhouse gas inventory system, improving data collection mechanisms and building institutional capacity for climate reporting.
Uzbekistan intends to continue its active participation in global climate processes, strengthen international cooperation, attract climate finance, and promote the deployment of modern technologies to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement and enhance resilience to climate change.
