As a reminder, pursuant to the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 25 March 2026, “On Measures for the Implementation of the Nationwide Clean Air Project Aimed at Improving Ambient Air Quality,” the country observes “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns on the 10th and 25th of each month. During these campaigns, employees of government institutions and agencies are prohibited from using official vehicles. At the same time, drivers continue to receive their salaries even when these dates fall on working days.
The initiative is aimed at reducing harmful emissions from motor vehicles, fostering an environmentally sustainable living environment and promoting the use of public transportation and other environmentally friendly modes of transport.
According to the protocol of the relevant special commission, the use of motor vehicles by civil servants during “Car-Free Day” and “Car-Free Week” campaigns entails liability in accordance with established procedures.
The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change calls on public and private sector organizations, as well as all citizens of the country, to actively join these campaigns and make greater use of public transportation, electric vehicles and other environmentally friendly modes of transport. Meaningful improvements in the environmental situation can only be achieved through collective efforts.
