The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Dmitry Tetenkin, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mansur Oshurbayev and Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Kochorov.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the activities of the six-party Working Group on Ecology, the draft Roadmap for the implementation of Section IX “Ecology” of the Joint Action Plan for 2025–2027, as well as further mechanisms for coordinating the document.
In his remarks during the videoconference, Jusipbek Kazbekov noted that climate change, land degradation, diminishing water resources, biodiversity loss and the increasing frequency of extreme natural events represent common challenges for the countries of the region and require joint solutions. It was emphasized that Central Asia is among the regions most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. In particular, the region is experiencing accelerated glacier melt, intensifying desertification processes, land degradation and growing pressure on water resources.
In this regard, the Uzbek side underscored the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and climate change adaptation. The “Central Asia – Russia” format was highlighted as an effective platform for pooling scientific expertise, exchanging experience and developing practical solutions.
The participants expressed their support for the draft Roadmap for cooperation for 2025–2027 and noted the relevance of its proposed areas of cooperation, including joint research on climate change, the development of environmental monitoring and data-sharing systems, biodiversity conservation and the expansion of scientific collaboration.
Following the consultations, the parties agreed to continue their joint work on finalizing the draft Roadmap and further advancing cooperation in the environmental sector within the framework of the “Central Asia – Russia” format.
