In 2022, countries around the world adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, marking an important step towards restoring nature. Clear targets to be achieved by 2030 were established, including the restoration of 30 percent of degraded ecosystems, the protection of significant terrestrial and marine areas, and the conservation of biodiversity. This means that protecting nature is no longer a matter of choice, but a global necessity.
The theme for 2026 is “Acting locally for global impact.” Every major transformation begins with small steps. Planting trees, using water responsibly, caring for nature and promoting environmental awareness all constitute meaningful contributions to the future of our planet.
This campaign also underscores the urgent need for action, as only four years remain until the target date for achieving the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals. The time to act is now.
