China’s advanced experience in combating desertification is being studied

The event was attended by Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the Committee on Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov, representative of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Uzbekistan Sun Changdong, Deputy Director General of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and Chinese Testing International Liu Xiaolong, representative of Lanzhou University Li Chunlin, Rector of Green University Professor Bakhtiyor Pulatov, professors from Chinese and local universities, as well as students.
Speaking at the event, Aziz Abdukhakimov emphasized that cooperation with China in the fields of education, science, innovation and sustainable development continues to strengthen consistently.
“The visit of representatives from 26 leading Chinese universities to Green University is vivid evidence of the growing academic cooperation and mutual trust between our two countries,” the Chairman noted. “This forum serves as an important platform for the development of long-term institutional cooperation, the expansion of academic exchange and joint scientific research in such key areas as environmental protection, climate resilience, green technologies, combating desertification, and sustainable development.”
During the forum, participants will have the opportunity to receive detailed information about educational programmes offered by Chinese universities, including bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programmes, as well as available grants and scholarships, the HSK examination, and application procedures. The forum programme also includes meetings with representatives of Chinese universities, presentations of educational programmes, and discussions on prospects for cooperation between higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and China.
In addition, the forum will be followed by an international training seminar titled “Technologies for Combating Desertification in Central Asia.” The seminar is jointly organized with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Its primary objective is to provide practical substance to the “China–Central Asia Community with a Shared Future” initiative and to facilitate the implementation of agreements reached at the level of heads of state.
The seminar is also aimed at studying China’s advanced experience in combating desertification. It will showcase modern technologies, products and practical solutions related to desertification prevention, water-saving agriculture, rehabilitation of saline lands, ecological restoration, and the efficient use of land resources. In addition, plans include the establishment of a regional platform for scientific, technological and industrial cooperation, as well as the promotion of the “Chinese technologies + Central Asian practice” model tailored to local conditions.
More than 60 Chinese scientists and specialists will participate in the seminar alongside nearly 60 experts from Green University and its affiliated organizations, engaging in scientific exchange, practical training sessions and field research. The programme also includes visits to the halophyte garden in Jizzakh and sites in the Tashkent region. As a result, the Research Institute for Combating Desertification and Developing Desert Economy will be further developed as a permanent regional centre for training and professional development in the field of combating desertification.
