In one case, inspectors from the Kashkadarya Regional Department of Ecology, working jointly with the Shahrisabz District Department and local police, found that a resident of the “Gissar” mahalla in the village of Koratut, identified as citizen Yu.K., had illegally caught 412 Amu Darya trout—listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan—as well as 6 crucian carp in the Tankhoz River.
This offence constitutes violations of the laws “On Environmental Control,” “On Nature Protection,” “On the Protection and Use of Wildlife,” and “On Hunting and Hunting Management,” as well as Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 80 of 9 February 2024 “On Approval of the Rules for Fishing in Natural Water Bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
For reference: fishing is prohibited from 11 March to 31 May in the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers; from 26 April to 10 June in natural water bodies of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm Region; and from 16 April to 31 May in all other natural water bodies. The restrictions are linked to the spawning season, when fishing can lead to a sharp decline in fish populations and even the loss of certain species.
The environmental damage caused by this violation is estimated at 12,749,340,000 sums. The case materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office of Kashkadarya Region for further legal action.
