The investigation found that the incident was caused by a drop in water levels in a fish-breeding pond owned by "Damachi Balik" LLC, located in the "Ittifokchi" mahalla of Zangiata district. The resulting lack of dissolved oxygen led to the death of fish weighing 200–300 grams. The dead fish were later disposed of in the Achchisai Canal by an employee of the enterprise.
Specialists also carried out laboratory testing of wastewater generated by the company’s operations. The results showed significant exceedances of permissible environmental standards across several indicators.
In particular, ammonium nitrogen levels exceeded the standard by 1.7 times, nitrite nitrogen by 1.95 times, total dissolved solids by 1.28 times, and total phosphorus by 1.8 times. This points to inadequate wastewater treatment, contamination of the water body, disruption of ecological balance and negative impacts on biodiversity.
Following the inspection, the enterprise was assessed compensation totaling 92 million sums. Administrative cases were initiated against those responsible, and mandatory instructions were issued to prevent similar incidents in the future. The canal was also cleared of the dead fish.
