The event brought together representatives of governments from regional countries and international organizations. The meeting focused on strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation amid growing climate-related challenges.
Participants discussed key environmental issues, including climate change, water resource management, pollution control, and biodiversity conservation. Special attention was given to the exchange of national experiences, the development of coordinated approaches, and the enhancement of cooperation within the environmental dimension of CICA.
Uzbekistan was represented by Farrukh Sattarov, Director of the National Center for Climate Change under the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He emphasized that climate change is already having a direct impact on the country’s economy and social sphere. According to Uzbekistan’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), the country is facing increasing climate risks, including rising temperatures and land degradation.
In response, Uzbekistan has strengthened its commitments, including a target to reduce the carbon intensity of GDP by 50% by 2035 compared to 2010 levels. Achieving this will require the mobilization of significant resources—approximately $33.7 billion for mitigation and $15.7 billion for adaptation.
Key priorities include the development of renewable energy, ecosystem restoration, and the integration of climate policy into economic development. In particular, the country aims to increase the share of green energy to 54% by 2030.
It was also noted that current global efforts remain insufficient to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, as confirmed by the outcomes of COP29. In this context, the importance of strengthening regional cooperation, including within CICA, was emphasized.
At the meeting, Uzbekistan reaffirmed its readiness to further enhance climate efforts and expand practical cooperation in the region.
