The foreign experience of hazardous waste management is being studied

The purpose of the event is to review the technical instructions on electronic waste, spent lead batteries, and used and spent pneumatic tires, as well as to discuss the Basel Convention cooperation program.
For information: Uzbekistan has acceded to this Convention by Resolution of Oliy Majlis of Republic of Uzbekistan No. 188-1 dated 22 December 1995 " On accession to the Basel Convention on the control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal".
At the event, a meeting was held with the Executive Secretary of the Basel Convention, Rolph Payet, during which an exchange of views took place on the measures taken in Uzbekistan to manage plastic waste and plans for the future. In addition, attention was paid to the further development of international cooperation within the framework of the Basel Convention. The best practices of foreign countries in the field of hazardous waste management were also studied.
Following the results of the meeting, the following events are planned to be held in our country:
— Based on the technical instructions and recommendations adopted within the framework of the Basel Convention Conference, the Ministry of Ecology will develop proposals for amendments to existing national regulatory documents, including compliance with international standards;
— To organize research on the formation of plastic waste in Uzbekistan and a review of national legislation with the involvement of local consultants to prepare a draft report on the current situation, problems, and measures to be implemented in the field of plastic waste management;
— Develop an action plan to establish interagency cooperation in the performance of work related to plastics, worn-out car tires, batteries, electronic and medical waste;
— To improve environmental culture and worldview in the field of waste management, to establish a system of informing about changes in this area in educational systems.
