In particular, one enterprise had unlawfully installed a furnace that was not specified in its environmental approval, the emissions from which were detrimental to air quality. At another enterprise, there were no air pollution control systems in place to capture harmful substances released during the metal smelting process.
As a result, the operations of both enterprises have been temporarily suspended for a period of 10 days. In addition, in order to prevent further harmful emissions into the atmosphere, it has been recommended that these enterprises be relocated outside the city of Tashkent.
Monitoring and enforcement activities are ongoing.
