In our country, active efforts are underway to study, conserve, and restore bird populations. Programmes are being implemented to monitor rare and endangered species, protected natural areas are being expanded and public awareness activities are being carried out.
One important achievement has been the inclusion of five wetlands in Uzbekistan in the Ramsar List — a list of sites of international importance that serve as key habitats for numerous bird species, including rare and endangered ones. These sites include Dengizkul Lake (2001), the Aydar-Arnasay Lake System (2008), the Tudakul and Kuymazar Reservoirs (2020), Lake Sudochye (2023) and Lake Zhyltyrbas (2024).
These natural areas serve as important breeding, wintering, and migratory sites for many bird species, including pink flamingos, pelicans, ospreys, red-breasted geese, and other rare representatives of the avian world.
Birds are an integral part of our ecosystem. They help protect the land from insect pests, disperse plant seeds, and enrich our lives with their song. However, many species are under threat of extinction due to habitat loss, environmental pollution and poaching. Every action we take matters. A careful and respectful attitude toward our country’s natural heritage will help ensure the protection of birds and their habitats.
