Greening levels have reached 14.2%
During this period, 942 green gardens and public parks have been established across more than 2,000 hectares, and "Yangi O‘zbekiston" gardens have been created in 47 residential areas. Forests covering 256,000 hectares have been developed in mountainous, desert, and foothill regions. On the dried bed of the Aral Sea, protective forest plantations now span 2 million hectares. In addition, a 60-kilometer green belt has been created in 33 districts to help mitigate wind and dust erosion.
Last year, modern nurseries capable of producing up to 5.5 million ornamental saplings annually were launched in the Khodjeyli, Yangibazar, Gijduvan, Balykchi and Akhangaran districts. For the first time this year, drought-resistant halophyte gardens based on Chinese experience have been established on 50 hectares in the Arnasay, Karakul, Mubarek, Karmana and Nukus districts. Overall, the country’s greening level has increased from 8% to 14.2% within a relatively short period.
"Yashil Makon" and "Yashil Devor" projects to move forward
This year, more than 75 million trees and shrubs have been planted under the "I Will Plant a Tree Too" initiative. According to a new presidential decree, Uzbekistan aims to increase its greening level to 30% by 2030. To achieve this, a "Yashil Makon" project will be implemented on 10,000 hectares in the Surkhandarya region, while an 84-kilometer green belt will be created in the Syrdarya region.
In addition, new forest areas will be established on 1 million hectares in Karakalpakstan, 300,000 hectares each in the Navoi and Bukhara regions and 85,000 hectares in the Khorezm region, primarily on desert lands. Regional governors will be responsible for establishing botanical and dendrological gardens of at least 100 hectares each, as well as no fewer than 20 shaded walking alleys.
The role of Green University highlighted
The President emphasized the importance of Green University in advancing greening efforts and highlighted the need to further develop environmental education.
This year, the university will launch an in vitro laboratory, along with centers for medicinal plants, seed production and plant breeding, based on an integrated "science-project-practice" model. In addition, starting this year, a system of green technical colleges will be introduced in every region, training up to 10,000 specialists annually through a dual education model. Botanical and dendrological gardens will serve as practical training bases for students and as platforms for scientific research.
Public participation is expanding
The President called for broader public and parliamentary involvement in the development of green areas. Under the "My Garden" program, funding per project has been increased from 250 million to 400 million soums. Each green garden and public park will be allocated up to 1 hectare of land, selected by residents near their homes and with guaranteed access to water supply.
The Head of State also called on mahalla leaders, elders, women and community activists to actively promote national traditions and values, strengthen unity within communities, and encourage participation in such initiatives. He urged the creation of initiative groups to set an example for young people by organizing the planting of trees and flowers along streets, in courtyards, along roads and in foothill areas.
88,000 saplings to be planted across 164 hectares
At the conclusion of the event, held with the participation of the President, ornamental saplings were planted on the first 5 hectares of the National Dendrological Garden. At the same time, across the regions of the republic, about 21,000 of our compatriots planted 88,000 saplings over an area of 164 hectares.
