Uzbekistan Awarded Prestigious Status for Its Contribution to the Conservation of Migratory Species

Speaking at the opening session in its capacity as the outgoing Chair of the Convention, the Republic of Uzbekistan officially handed over the presidency to the Federative Republic of Brazil. During the plenary session, the Uzbek delegation presented a report on the results of its chairmanship for the period 2024–2026. The document highlighted the country’s contribution to the conservation of migratory species, the development of international partnerships and the advancement of initiatives aimed at combating the illegal taking of wild animals.
It should be recalled that in February 2024, the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention (CMS COP14) was held in Samarkand, following which Uzbekistan assumed the chairmanship. Hosting this forum marked an important step in strengthening the country’s international standing in the environmental sphere.
A particularly significant recognition by the international community was the awarding of the Migratory Species Champion Plus status to the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The official ceremony took place as part of the Migratory Species Champion Programme. This status was conferred on Uzbekistan in recognition of its substantial support for and commitment to, strengthening legal frameworks and global action to combat the illegal taking of migratory species during the period 2026–2028.
This achievement reflects the country’s consistent environmental policy and its contribution to uniting international efforts for the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of migratory species.
