The primary goal is to ensure equal access to water for every individual and to promote a sustainable future by engaging women in water resource management. This day is also linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 6 — to ensure access to water and sanitation for all by 2030.
In Uzbekistan, significant efforts are being made to protect water resources. In particular, last year water protection zones and coastal areas were designated for 10 natural water bodies, including the Karatog River in Surkhandarya region; the Khondiza, Dashnabadsoy and Laylagansoy streams; Lake Karakir in Bukhara region; as well as the Sangzor River and the Uriklisoy, Usmonlisoy, Yettikechuv and Guralashsoy streams in Jizzakh region.
In addition, continuous monitoring is carried out of surface water bodies and enterprises discharging wastewater. Special attention is given to reducing the negative impact of industrial effluents on natural water bodies. A target has also been set to increase water-use efficiency by 25 percent by 2030.
