This is предусмотрено Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 106, “On the Approval of the Regulation on National Natural Heritage Sites of Uzbekistan.”
According to the resolution, for a natural site to be included in the national natural heritage list, the biophysical processes and landforms within its territory must be preserved in their natural state. Consideration is also given to the conservation of biodiversity; the presence of habitats and ecosystems characteristic of the region; the distribution ranges of flora and fauna species; habitats, breeding and nesting sites of migratory species; hydrological features of significance for biodiversity or humanity; as well as a number of other criteria.
In addition, the right to submit proposals for the inclusion of natural sites in the national heritage list is granted to government bodies, business associations, non-governmental non-profit organisations and citizens. The territories and boundaries of sites included in the list will be clearly delineated. Within these areas, activities that may harm the natural environment will be restricted or prohibited.
The requirements set forth in this Regulation will also serve as a legal foundation for the subsequent inclusion of Uzbekistan’s national natural heritage sites in the prestigious lists of UNESCO and other international organisations.
