Interim Results of the “FOLUR – Uzbekistan” Project Presented

The meeting was attended by Jusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Climate Change, Nuriddin Kushnazarov, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan on International Cooperation, Sherzod Umarov, Deputy FAO Representative in Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the project’s partner organizations — the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
It was noted that innovative technologies are being introduced in agriculture within the framework of the project. Owners of household plots and farming enterprises have been supplied with drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, biofertilizers, and nearly 60 tons of agricultural crop seeds. In addition, 320 tons of seeds have been produced and distributed among farmers. Furthermore, the “Ice Stupa” artificial glacier technology has been introduced in the Shahrisabz district of the Kashkadarya region, aimed at creating an additional water source for agriculture under conditions of water scarcity and ensuring irrigation during the spring–summer period.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants also exchanged information on upcoming international events, regional seminars and training sessions, and identified further priority tasks for the implementation of the project.
