Uzbekistan and Japan Sign Memorandum of Cooperation in Environmental Protection

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, sustainable development, and addressing contemporary environmental challenges. It was noted that environmental issues are global in nature and require coordinated efforts by states to ensure their effective resolution and to preserve the environment for present and future generations.
Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation in Environmental Protection was signed between the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Climate Change and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan.
The document provides for the development of cooperation based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, taking into account the Sustainable Development Goals, national legislation, and international environmental agreements. In accordance with the memorandum, cooperation will be carried out across several key areas, including combating climate change, reducing air pollution, preventing water pollution and improving waste management systems.
The memorandum also предусматривает the implementation of joint capacity-building activities, including the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia, and seminars, as well as the exchange of information between specialists and experts from the two countries.
The signed document creates a foundation for further expanding Uzbek–Japanese partnership in the environmental sphere and for implementing joint projects aimed at improving environmental protection.
