Deputy Chair Jusipbek Kazbekov opened the meeting, highlighting the growing role of civil society in shaping and advancing environmental policy, as well as the need to strengthen public oversight of government programmes.
One of the main discussions focused on the progress of the nationwide "Yashil Makon" (“Green Space”) initiative. Updates were presented on tree-planting efforts across the regions, measures to ensure seedling survival and the monitoring system. Council members emphasized the importance of developing clear regional indicators for urban greening, introducing a public regional ranking, enhancing community-based monitoring and digital reporting and incorporating metrics on the maintenance of green spaces.
The meeting also reviewed the management of protected natural areas, including the condition of nature reserves and national parks, biodiversity conservation efforts and cross-border cooperation. Members recommended expanding scientific expeditions, conducting wildlife counts in transboundary areas, accelerating the development of ecological corridors, offering regular training for staff and establishing a unified digital database in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
Several NGO projects were also examined. The "Madad" project, designed to improve public legal literacy in ecology and environmental protection, includes training seminars, educational materials and free legal assistance. The Council noted that the project would benefit from clearer performance indicators and more detailed budget justification.
Another initiative discussed was the Qalb ekologiyasi – Ecology of the Soul project within the Toza Mahalla – Sustainable Society programme, planned for implementation in the Bogzor mahalla of Zangiata district. It aims to establish a waste collection and sorting station, improve the area, plant trees and conduct community awareness activities. The Council recommended strengthening the project’s long-term sustainability section and refining its economic calculations.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the need for an annual work plan for the Public Council, regular reporting by the Committee’s departments and greater transparency through the publication of meeting minutes and recommendations on the official website.
