In the city of Termez, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the practical results of a project aimed at improving Surkhandarya’s drinking water supply through the use of water from the "Tupalang" reservoir. As a result of this initiative, mineral-rich drinking water is now supplied uninterruptedly to ten districts of the region and to the city of Termez. While eight or nine years ago centralized drinking water coverage stood at 47 percent, today it has reached 67.5 percent. This has led to substantial quantitative and qualitative improvements in water supply for the population.
Under the project, 246 kilometers of trunk and internal pipelines were constructed. Hydraulic modeling enabled water to be delivered without the use of pumps, significantly reducing energy consumption and enhancing system stability. Thanks to this innovative approach, water is supplied to Termez and the district centers of Angor, Bandikhan, Kizirik, Sherabad and Muzrabad without electricity. Drinking water supply has now been strengthened for 223 mahallas, eliminating the need for more than one hundred groundwater wells and reducing environmental pressure.
The project also allows for an annual saving of 18.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to 18.5 billion sums. Integrating consumers into a billing system has improved transparency in water accounting and reduced arrears. Another important component of the initiative is the installation of 6,418 kilowatts of solar panels across a 10-hectare area.
The President also noted that Surkhandarya offers favorable ecological conditions for agricultural production. In particular, he familiarized himself with the activities of the Household Farming School in Termez District. It was highlighted that local production of water-saving technologies and modern irrigation systems can reduce costs, promote rational water use amid climate change, and respond more quickly to the needs of farmers and the population.
"The Household Farming School" focuses on training citizens to use household plots efficiently, cultivate high-value crops, and apply modern methods of processing, storage, and packaging. Special attention is given to supporting employment among the unemployed and low-income families and to creating sustainable sources of income. The curriculum includes practical teaching in the scientific foundations of agriculture, technologies for cultivating high-profit crops and modern approaches to household farming.
The innovative school covers the districts of Termez, Muzrabad, Kizirik, Bandikhan, Angor and Jarkurgan. Its infrastructure includes a training facility, a three-hectare greenhouse, and a three-hectare training and experimental site. The greenhouse cultivates crops adapted to Surkhandarya’s climate, including bananas, papaya, rosemary, lavender, lemons, figs, broccoli, bell peppers and other varieties. Nursery production and floriculture have also been established, and drip-irrigation systems have been introduced.
Today, Surkhandarya has become one of the most attractive locations for entrepreneurs engaged in greenhouse farming. The region’s warm climate, fertile soils and other natural features allow producers to grow crops even in harsh winter conditions without additional heating or excessive costs.
The Head of State also reviewed a presentation on practices for obtaining three harvests from household plots, industrial orchards and water-saving technologies. During discussions with entrepreneurs involved in processing and exporting fruit and vegetable products, he emphasized the importance of expanding processing capacities and creating added value, as well as developing the cultivation of new crops for the region, including citrus and tropical fruits.
