The planting works are being carried out on the initiative of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change under the guidance of Professor Zinovy Novitsky, Research Institute of Forestry.
The plants are currently 1 month old. They are drought-resistant, can grow in harsh conditions, and reach a height of 4 meters per year. The planting technology is unique in that it is carried out by root offspring instead of seedlings.
"These are new plants for the drained bottom of the Aral Sea, introduced from other zones. In 1-2 years, this entire area will be planted with Arundo donax plants because the root offspring are sprouting. They will not only help prevent salt winds, but their stems can be used for construction, weaving, and feeding products", says Z. Novitsky.
The successful results of the Z. Novitsky project were shared with his Kazakh colleagues in Astana, where he went at the invitation of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
