The event was attended by professors from the Department of Economic and Financial Strategy of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The delegation was led by Academician of Moscow State University, distinguished scholar, Doctor of Economics, Professor of Political Economy, and Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Lvovich Kvint.
Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, who participated in the event, underscored the importance of this cooperation for advancing sectoral development in environmental protection and addressing climate-related challenges in the country. During the meeting, Aziz Abdukhakimov awarded Vladimir Lvovich Kvint the “Tabiat Himoyachisi” (“Defender of Nature”) badge of honour.
The presentation introduced the first stage in the development of the Strategy — the strategizing methodology — which includes an analysis of global, regional, and national trends, the formulation of the mission, vision and slogan, as well as the establishment of a framework of strategic priority contours. Particular attention was given to the phased implementation concept, the development of roadmaps, and the identification of resource allocation mechanisms. As highlighted during the presentation, the mission of the Strategy is aimed at fostering a responsible approach to natural resources, consolidating the efforts of the state, business, and society in ensuring rational water use, and promoting Uzbekistan’s environmental leadership in Central Asia.
Key strategic contours and priorities were also presented, covering human ecology, innovative water treatment technologies, improved water resource governance, the development of a circular economy, the green transformation of the energy balance and the strengthening of environmental culture and professional capacity-building.
During the presentation, the expert group conducted an in-depth discussion of the expected outcomes of the National Strategy’s implementation. An exchange of views also took place on effective water resource management, ensuring environmental sustainability, and achieving long-term development objectives.
It should be noted that the visit of Academician V.L. Kvint and the expert group he leads to Tashkent continues from 18 to 22 February of this year. The programme includes a series of meetings, discussions and joint events.
The National Strategy is aimed at enhancing the water resource management system, strengthening environmental protection, and ensuring environmentally sustainable development in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
