A new project on sustainable water resources management will be launched in the Zarafshan River basin

At the meeting, the sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection. In particular, the commitment of the Swiss Government to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the Government of Uzbekistan and support economic, social, and environmental reforms in the country was expressed.
During the negotiations, it was announced that the project "Climate-sustainable Integrated Water Resources Management in the Zarafshan River Basin" had been successfully registered and launched.
For information: This project aims to improve integrated water resources management in the Uzbek part of the Zarafshan River basin. To develop approaches, attention will be focused on a 3,000-hectare pilot site, where work will be carried out with 100 farmers to improve irrigation, agricultural methods, and water metering. The project will be implemented in three stages by the CARITAS Consortium of Switzerland (CACH) and the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC).
The meeting also discussed the issue of cooperation between the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies, Green University, under the Ministry of Ecology, and leading Swiss universities in the field of water resources.
