The white-headed vulture is a vulnerable, declining, resident subspecies with a fragmented distribution range. It is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and also classified under Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The species belongs to the order of birds of prey and primarily inhabits mountainous and foothill areas, especially open rocky landscapes. Its distinguishing features include light, almost white plumage and a bare yellow head.
The white-headed vulture performs an important sanitary role in nature: by feeding mainly on animal carcasses, it contributes significantly to maintaining ecological balance and environmental cleanliness.
For reference: "Yukori Tupalang" National Natural Park was established on 4 March 2022 in the Sariosiyo District of the Surkhandarya Region.
