Wastewater Treatment Project Discussed with the Public in Namangan Region

The hearings were organized at the Namangan District branch of “Namangan Suv Ta’minoti,” as well as in the mahallas of "Ravnaq", "Saxovat", "Qo‘shchinor", "Urganchi", and "Beshkapa", which fall within the project implementation area. The event was attended by responsible representatives of the Namangan regional and district khokimiyats, representatives of JSC “Namangan Suv Ta’minoti,” the management of “Namangan Metito,” environmental and social specialists from “JURU,” mahalla chairpersons, active citizens, representatives of farming enterprises and specialists from relevant organizations.
The hearings, held in an open dialogue format, aimed to gather public opinions, explain the objectives of the project and address questions related to existing environmental concerns. Specialists provided detailed information on the project’s environmental and social impacts, the condition of the construction site, the application of modern technologies and the expected efficiency of wastewater treatment.
For reference, the project предусматриes the modernization of the existing wastewater treatment system in Namangan District and the construction of a new, modern treatment facility. The project includes the reconstruction of a new site covering 3.5 hectares, the introduction of mechanical and biological treatment processes based on advanced international technologies and the installation of new sewer pipelines. In addition, specialized monitoring sensors will be installed at key discharge points to ensure continuous monitoring of wastewater quality indicators.
During the hearings, residents highlighted concerns regarding unpleasant odors from the sewerage system, damage to agricultural lands, the discharge of wastewater into the river, and the deterioration of pipelines. Specialists noted that the project has been improved, aligned with international and national standards and developed using modern technologies. Its implementation is expected to reduce odor issues, ensure full treatment of discharged wastewater and prevent negative environmental impacts.
Following the hearings, participants shared their comments and proposals, emphasizing the importance of the project’s phased and transparent implementation with due consideration of environmental and social aspects.
