The law provides for measures to monitor the environmental situation, improve public health, ensure the rational and careful use of natural resources, promote environmental sustainability, enhance the system of state environmental oversight and prevent violations in this sphere.
For reference, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 217 of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 18, 2025, financial sanctions will be introduced starting April 1, 2026, against legal entities for violations of legislation in the field of ecology, environmental protection and the use of natural resources.
These sanctions will apply exclusively to legal entities for violations related to riverbed cleaning and riverbank reinforcement works, non-compliance with water protection regulations, illegal tree and shrub cutting, air pollution, as well as offenses associated with waste management.
The adoption of this law and the imposition of substantial financial penalties on legal entities are aimed at effectively preventing and suppressing environmental violations. The law is not directed against business or the economy; rather, it targets legal entities whose activities cause harm to nature and involve breaches of environmental legislation.
