Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that the 12th session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Tourism of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was successful.
"At the conference, it was decided to improve the criteria for the selection of tourist cities of the OIC, to increase their tourist potential by choosing the smallest and most promising cities. The main directions were identified as the implementation of the strategic roadmap for the development of Islamic tourism, simplification of the visa regime, stimulating investment, increasing mutual tourist flow through the promotion of Islamic tourism facilities, training, and standardization of the organization", said A. Abdukhakimov. "We also invited the OIC member states to use the capabilities of such institutions as COMCEC, SESRIC, ICDT, IRCICA, ICESCO, ICCIA, and SMIIC, their projects and programs for the development of tourism in their countries", the minister added.
For information: within the framework of the event, an agreement was reached on the development of pilgrimage tourism, ecotourism, and medical tourism in order to diversify the tourism industry. In addition, special attention was paid to the introduction of standards for halal tourism services. In particular, the OIC member states are widely promoting the "general requirements for halal tourism services" approved on the basis of the standards of Islamic countries, as well as the standards of halal medical tourism being developed.
At a press conference, Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that the following cities were awarded the title of "Tourist City of the Islamic World": Dakar (Senegal) in 2025, Cairo (Egypt) in 2026, and Lahore (Pakistan) in 2027.

For information: during the 12th session, the chairmanship of the Islamic Conference was transferred from Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan. As part of the event, it was decided to hold the XIII session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Tourism in Qatar.
