The event, dedicated to February 3 — International Bird Feeding Day — brought together young environmental activists, school students, volunteers and representatives of the media. During the campaign, participants installed birdhouses made by hand on trees and also distributed bird feed.
For reference: the “Let’s Help Birds in Winter” campaign was conducted across all regions of the republic, engaging approximately 1,400 young environmental activists. In specially designated areas, various types of feed were scattered and birdhouses installed to facilitate birds’ access to food.
It should be noted that during the cold winter period, the Committee on Ecology regularly carries out a range of activities aimed at improving living conditions not only for birds, but for wildlife in general. Special attention is given each year to bird conservation efforts, with a strong focus on youth engagement. The objective is not only to protect bird populations, but also to foster environmental awareness and ecological culture among the younger generation.
For reference, approximately 500 bird species are currently found in the country. Of these, 50 species are listed in the Red Book and are considered rare. Some 320 species (67.2%) are migratory.
